Casa Esme has had a great year! We opened in May 2005 after what seemed like a never ending series of problems and more than our fair share of bad luck…but we persevered and are delighted with the results.
The day centre was established to offer rehabilitation and education for children with special needs – no other specialised day centre exists in Barlad so this is a much needed service. We currently have 27 children in attendance between the ages of 4 and 11. Our previous day centre was located in the local children’s hospital, in a room 3m by 5m. It was no surprise therefore that the children were thrilled when they saw the new centre - all those spacious light rooms and halls seem incredible after the tiny room we used to have. It took a while for them to settle down as they all felt obliged to wander around checking out all the available space and of course visiting the bathroom hourly to see the “posh” taps! It was all a big change for us too.
As time has passed our school is still a bright, creative centre of excellence in our area. We have specialised staff who provide the
necessary educational and emotional support the children need. We receive referals from government agencies as well as directly from families.
Our children have a wide spectrum of needs and a number have been helped to develop to the stage where they have gone onto integration within local schools.
Some of our young people are unable to do this and at the age of 11 they have left our care. However, in 2010 we started an afternoon club for these youngsters which is currently run x days a week and is supported by Casa Esme staff and volunteers. We recognise the on-going needs of these people and wanted to develop more services for them.
In 2009 we gained some funding from the Government and currently receive £x per month which helps towards the monthly running costs of £____.
There is a waiting list of children to come to Casa Esme and we know there are many other children who could benefit from our care if we had sufficient funds to develop further.
We really couldn’t have done this without your help. We would like to send a million thanks to everyone who has supported, and continues to

support, the work that the Casa Esme Day Centre carries out for the special needs children in Barlad.
If you would like to help, we would be delighted to hear from you. You can sponsor one of the children attending Casa Esme and help fund their education and care. You will receive regular updates and your donations will be very gratefully received. For further details on sponsorship click here
