We have a fantastic group of young volunteers who run many of our activities for us. These teenagers are a group of dedicated, unpaid volunteers and are a tremendous help and huge asset to us. We recruited 12 new volunteers in October, all of whom had to go through a selection process of self-introduction, CV and finally an interview with the project manager. At this moment we have a group of 28 volunteers.
The young volunteers run the local Guides and Scouts groups where we have 20 local children aged 11 to 13 in attendance, 15 children aged 8 to 10  Recently they were fortunate enough to visit two of the local museums, have a little trip to a local historical monument and go on a small pilgrimage to a local famous monastery. The usual
activities are organized on a three months program based on a theme. The young volunteers also had the opportunity to attend the Guides and Scouts Annual General Meeting in Bucharest. They worked really hard prior to the meeting, preparing activity reports, leaflets of the local centre in Barlad and other promotional materials to present in the meeting. It was also an opportunity to view the activity plan for next year and they were delighted to see that our little members
were due to take part in an international summer camp next year!
The young volunteers also run a Sunday School in Barlad.
One of the activities worth a mention was a yummy cooking session. Both volunteers and children enjoyed doing it (we’re not sure who enjoyed it the most!) but they all got to eat the sweets they made at the end!!

The young volunteers also organize summer

camps for the children with handicap, as well as fundraising activities: fairs, sponsored walks, raffles, Christmas shows.   In addition to the invaluable support the charity receives from volunteers in Barlad, we are also keen to hear from anyone interested in helping with fundraising and administration in the UK. The Silat Martial Arts Club – run by the same volunteers – gathers together 28 students between 5 and 30 years of age. Classes are held weekly and as well as being a great way to exercise, it’s also great fun. We are proud to say that 60 pounds has already been raised from class fees in one month and should be on-going. The money helps Myosotis to fund the above programmes.
